I was first exposed to art by the simple act of being raised in the family to which
I belong. My mother is an artist and I was raised around color. I can not think of
a time in my formative years that there was not some painting, art class with projects, home decoration, or some other flurry of color swirling around me. Years later, my mother painted with a vibrant group of women that traveled, worked in old storefronts, and learned and taught much in their passing. My first formal painting class was with B2 Jenkins at the College of the
Albemarle in the early 80’s. She was a strong painter with a joy for the art that she spread like butter amongst those around her. My mother has continued to paint and is a strong influence, as well as my sister who is active in the arts.

Abstract, non-objective art is my main focus, though I am from time to time drawn to the sky, with its fast changing and colorful characters. I have had my work described as “order out of chaos” and “subtle geometry”. I consider a painting to have turned out well when its mood or feeling changes with light and perspective. I try not to shock with color, but to accent with it and draw the viewer in and around the work I often begin with a basic palette of colors in mind and adjust as I see how the field builds. Working abstract, I mostly use “day light” lighting as opposed to natural light for consistency during the work process, though I may change something after a viewing process, which usually involves hanging in my home and hanging outside in natural light.  Acrylic is my choice of medium, though many paintings may have pastels, charcoal, or pencil used as an accent as well as collage materials.  I enjoy the act of creating art. The process is soothing and at the same time, stimulating. I hope you gather as much enjoyment from my work as I do.
