For The Kids





Ages 8-11 (grades 3-5)



June 23-27 Life Drawing —Drawing from life….still life, wild life, and everyday life! We’ll use markers, paints, colored pencils and lots of other fun drawing media.

July 28-August1 Fabulous Fibers -Are you just Dying to create? Students will get to try silk painting, fabric stamping, tie dye, origami, weaving , and sewing. Some projects will be wearable, some will be hangable, but all will be fabulous!

August 18-22 See You in The Funny Papers! -Are you crazy for cartoon characters? Using imagination as their guide, students will learn to design original characters and storyboards. This class includes a strong foundation of basic drawing techniques whether drawing comics or real life!

July 21-25 Funtastic Fairy Tale —For kids who love a little drama! Use your creativity and imagination to create props, sets and puppets as we bring a fairy tale to life with a performance at the end of class!

Kids Crafts Workshops: Every Thursday from 3:00-5:00. -Sign up for one or all.

A different project weekly using all the materials in the world that you ever wanted to make something out of! (well almost anyway)     $30 weekly

Week 1: June 23
Sculpey Swirl Switchplate Cover and Fan Pull for your bedroom. Turning on the lights has never been so inviting!

Week 2: July 3
Patriotic Wind Sock: Let your flag fly...and dance and spin. You can always know which direction the wind is blowing!

Week 3: July 10
Oriami Crane Mobile: You’ll CRANE your neck over and over looking up at this beautiful flock of flying and floating cranes made from paper.

Week 4: July 17
Wooden Men Can Dance!: Wooden marionettes to make your own play productions at home. Watch him dance.

Week 5: July 24
Sculpey Swirl Desk Set. Learn came making and transfer that new art to designing a matching desk set with pen, pencil and holder.

Week 6: July 31
Traveling Game Box: There’s nothing electronic or annoying about this game box. It’s all old fashioned fun. Chess and checkers inside a self designed game box.

Week 7: August 7
Kids Kaleidoscope: Yep, you’ll build your very own kaleidoscope ! Make beautiful color patterns with a mere turn of the wrist.

Week 8: August 14
Flying Flip Flop Mobile: You’ll make creatures of the sea and sky using flip flop materials. (Scissor Cutting strength required)

Week 9: August 21
Café De Birdie: If you build it, they will come: the birds that is! A Bird feeder sure to please your feathered friends. We’ll recycle gourds and found objects into a backyard café for birds.

Ages 5-7 (grades K-2)




July 7-11 Ocean Explorers —Magical mermaids, wonderful whales, creative crabs and fantastic fish will appear as you explore the ocean through art!

August 4-8 Celebrate Summer —Draw, paint, and sculpt all the great ideas about summer! Explore many media while reminiscing about summer days gone by and imagining days yet to come!

Teens and Tweens (grades 6-8)




August 11-15 Experimenting with Art Trends from “Back in the Day” -Exploring the 1950’s, 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s in art! Groovy! Far out! You’ll be inspired by artists such as Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, Peter Max and Keith Haring.

Afternoon Apprenticeships Blacksmith workshops




A hands on introduction to the practical skills and methods of traditional blacksmithing. Minimum age 14 or parent/child partnerships $40 per person or $80 per parent/child partnership. Randy Hodges, instructor Class times scheduled on individual basis. Classes are held for 2 hour sessions. Call for details.



Please Note: Reservations for classes are held with paid registration. Cancellations cheerfully refunded with one week’s notice (minimum). Last minute cancellations will not be refunded unless the newly available space is able to be filled. Thanks for your cooperation.

Make a Railroad Spike Oyster Knife Randy Hodges, instructor

Transform a railroad spike into a useful tool such as an oyster knife , marlinspike or possibly a letter opener. (Prior blacksmith experience not necessary).
Students will be exposed to operation of a coal forge and use of the blacksmith’s basic hand tools.
$40     Saturday, March 10,    2:30-5:00   or   Saturday March 24,    10:00-12:30

Backyard Blacksmithing (Adult/Child partners) Randy Hodges, instructor

Learn how to pursue the craft of blacksmithing at home with your child.
Projects created in class will be small utilitarian items such as hooks and nails, depending upon the interest of the students.
Effective use of hammers and pliers necessary for adult partner, and would be helpful for child as well.
$75/ parent,child pair    Saturday, March 24, 2:30-5:00   or   Saturday, March 31, 10:00 – 12:30

Loosen up by Simplifying: all medias     For oils, acrylics, watercolor and pastels

Mike Rooney, artist and instructor from Topsail Beach, NC, will teach a workshop guaranteed to loosen up your style and transform your art.
Learn to paint with a loose, quick and impressionistic style by learning these basics:
Equipment needed for plein air work,
Working outdoors or from photos,
Capturing light effects,
Simplifying objects- stick figures welcomed,
Working quickly- time waits for no one,
Massing in and values- form blobs to objects,
Color and composition theory, its not as boring as it sounds,
Color palette choices- your individuality expressed in pigment,
Approaching galleries with your work after you’ve created your masterpiece

Board Book Workshop E.M. Corsa, instructor

Just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Create a keepsake book for your sweetheart right from your heart using recycled objects, beautiful papers and various objects from your own collections.
Imagine taking a used children's board book and turning it into a work of art for yourself or for a one-of-a-kind gift for someone special.
Make a statement or just make it pretty and feel good about recycling. This workshop is like art, it is for everybody, even beginners.
Beginners will enjoy exploring a new world of images and techniques, and experienced artists will be able to try a new medium they might not have explored before.
Students will create two books to take home with them.
Plan a theme for your books ahead of time, this will make it really easy in class.
Adults.    Two Saturdays 1:00-5:00    February 3, 10.    $110

    

Nature Drawing E.M. Corsa, instructor

A beginning drawing course. Really! Students need not be experienced artists to be able to appreciate and record the natural world around them.
A desire to learn is all that’s required. Learn real drawing techniques to draw what you see.
